Maya Gas Pump Project

Gas Pump Model
For our next Maya task we had to make and texture a gas pump. As usual I start with a grey scale model using tools from the previous sessions to make the model base.

Gas Pump UVs
Then I move on to UV mapping where I am able to see through colour value the curves and structure of my model.

Gas Pump Texturing
Unfortunately I was unable to continue as I suffered an error which has blocked me from carrying on following the tutorial, maybe in the future I will be able to overcome this error when I have better understanding of Maya texturing.

Maya Turret Project (Rigging)

Animation
For our last session with the turret we were shown how to animate a turret in Maya.
With the use of key frames we were able to make the turret move and fire.

Turret Project

Building in Maya
In Maya we had to use some of the skills we learn to make a turret.

Adding Detail
In another session we were shown how to add detail to a high polygon model, and then to bake them on to the low polygon model. This will now allow us to make a mesh for the model.

Mesh in Photoshop
In another session with the turret we had to make a mesh for the base model of the turret. We experimented with textures and colours to give the turret a sense of being real.

Outcome
As a result I was able to add my mesh on to the turret base model.

Digital Painting Project (A Dwarf and an Elf)

Dwarf & Elf

Today in class we were learning proportions of a Dwarf and Elf which we had to apply with making a character. I can safely say I have mixed feelings for the Dwarf and Elf. For the Dwarf example his body and armour is good but his head is a bit of, however on the Elf I love her head but not so keen on the body. But this is still early days and with enough practice I could attach a better result in the future.

Tank Project

Step 1-Mood Board
For this project we had to make a tank to show two point perspective plus lighting and shadowing. As usual I startd by gathering images of tanks for my mood board which I would use to help generate ideas.

Step 2-Ideas
Then I started to sketch out rough ideas, I decided to do a hover tank as I am new to vehicle designs, so adding wheels would be too much of a challenge for me right now. I finally decided to go with my second idea to do for the lighting and shadowing technique.

Step 3-Chosen Idea
As with most perspective drawings the horizon line is off the page so had to draw out a small diagram of the horizon line and my A4 piece of paper, This technique helps me plan out where on the horizon line my two points of perspective meet. Then I am able to sketch out my hover tank.

Step 4- Layout
Now I have to make a layout using cubes and rectangles to allow me to draw my hover tank idea out.

Step 5-Sketch Out
After that I am then able to sketch out my chosen tank idea out.

Step 6-Outcome
Finally I have to add lighting that I used in class for the Cube, this adds depth and a 3rd dimension to my idea. My outcome is very simple but mainly because I have never done vehicle designs before but I believe it came out really well for my first go. Maybe at a later date I might be able to add more to it as I learn more throughout this year.

Maya Fish Animation Project

Animating My Maya Fish
For our homework we had to make our fish model in Maya move. With a tutorial to guide us through the steps I learnt how to add a skeleton and joints in the fish model, this allowed me to move individual parts of the fish to create the animation.

Animation
The final outcome of my fish animation.

Lighting and Shadowing Values Project

Values
Last Session we learnt about values while watching a tutorial. After that we tried it out on a simple cube to understand how values work.

Insectoid Character Project

 Step 1-Moodboard
As with every project I start with a mood board of inspirational images for a starting point, in this case Insectoid creatures.

Step 2-Ideas
Then I begin to sketch out rough ideas to give me an idea for a final design.

Step 3-Final Idea
In the end I went with rough idea number 2 which is based off a wasp. I call this a Sylvie which means Forest.

Step 4-Front & Side View
Here is a front and side view of the character which can be used to help 3D modellers create a 3D model of the character.

Step 5-Three Quarter View
And finally here is the final stage a three quarter view of Sylvie the Crane Wasp Queen.

Maya Chairs and Table Project

Image 1
Here's the chair reference image.

Maya Chair 1
Here's my chair model that I designed in Maya while following a Lynda tutorial online. I believe it came out really well considering I am still getting use to Maya, out of the two chairs I personally think this one came out better than my second one.

Image 2
Here's the second chair reference image.

Maya Chair 2
Here's my second chair model that I designed in Maya while following a Lynda tutorial online. I believe it came out ok especially after the new tools and techniques that I have never used before. Out of the two chairs I personally think  number one came out better than  this one.

Image 3
Here's the table reference image.

Maya Table
And finally here is my chair model that I designed in Maya while following a Lynda tutorial online. I believe it came out really well I also enjoyed making this one more because of the other tutorials have helped me know where all the tools are so I am getting use to the way Maya works.

Speed Painting Project

Speed Painting Step - 1

Speed Painting Step - 2

 Speed Painting Step - 3

Speed Painting Step - 4

Speed Painting Step - 5

Speed Painting Step - 6
In Class today we tried a speed painting technique as above to try another way of digitally painting. I think the lighting works well but its a technique I will need to work on more, to gain a better understanding on this technique.

Monster Project

Step 1 - Mood Board
This week's project was to design a monster, I looked at different monsters. But I had a thought and remembered back to my childhood of a monster that looked like a ballerina but had a skull head, claw hands and a sharp blade attached to her wrists. This is why I added the ballerina into my monster mood board to help me get the pose right and also an idea of ballerinas posture and elegance. This has given me an idea to develop on monsters that I have made during my childhood.

Step 2 - Initial Ideas
Night Terrors
This is my first monster a Night Terror, a creature that stalks its target before slicing them in half. Also Night Terrors are big monsters and wear masks so they can breath clearly.

Melaniya Dancers
This is my second monster called Melaniya Dancer. Melaniya means black or dark in Russian, which is fitting considering this monster is a ballerina dressed in black and has a skull head. she also has claw hands and blades attached to her wrists. This monster will dance towards it's target and start slicing them while in mid dance.

Quietus
This is my third monster called Quietus, a small stubby creature but don't let size fool you this monster is aggressive and will kill you without a second thought.

Step 3 Final Idea
I have chosen the Melaniya Dancer as she is more interesting in my opinion and can show of a dark beauty. I decided to play around with layers, levels and colours rather than digitally paint her, mainly because I want to experiment with different ways of colouring in.

Zombie Life Drawings

Pen Drawings

Chosen Life Drawings From Sessions 1 - 4

Charcoal Drawings

Perspective Project

One Point Perspective

For homework we had to follow and recreate Mark Crilley's one point perspective tutorial on YouTube. we had to colour it in, I chose inks mixed with water to try and water it down, there are a few mistakes but perspective is not my strongest point; however with enough practice I believe that I could get better at perspective.
